ARE YOU UP-TO-DATE ON YOUR SPRING CLEANING?
So, you’ve laundered the curtains, washed the baseboards, and cleaned the dust bunnies out from under the bed. You swept the cobwebs out of the corners, cleaned that yucked-up oven, and washed all the windows inside and out. You even bathed the dog and washed his bedding.
But did you spring clean your vape mod? No? Perhaps, it’s time to think about that now. You put fluids into it, it’s bound to get dirty, right? And, for Pete’s sake, you put your mouth on that thing! You want to keep it clean, trust me.
It’s Important to Clean Your Mod
A dirty mod can wreak havoc on your ability to enjoy your vape. So, if your favorite liquid tastes a bit less flavorful or if you’re getting hints of mixed flavors, or it simply looks messy – you need to give that mod a good cleaning.
Not just in the spring, either. Your vape needs to be cleaned regularly. How often depends on how much you vape.
A good rule of thumb would be to rinse your tank well every time you change flavors and give your mod a thorough cleaning when it looks as if it needs one.
If you’re a light vaper, you may get away with giving your vape a deep clean once a month. If you’re a heavier vaper – give it a good cleaning every 2 to 3 weeks. If you vape very heavily, you should clean your device every week. Keeping your mod clean will give it a long, happy life.
To keep from having to deal with mixed flavors on a regular basis, be sure to rinse your tank really well each time you change flavors or brands. Some very committed vapers keep several mods – one for each flavor they plan to use.
Have I got some cool news for you? You bet, I do! 50 Shades of Custard yummy flavors will not cross contaminate – ever.
Hey, I’m jus’ sayin’! 😉
Complete Vape Cleaning Instructions
Don’t know where or how to start? No problem, we have you covered. I’ve got a step-by-step cleaning process that’s guaranteed to leave you with the cleanest vape in town in 10 simple steps. Ready?
First, collect yourself a supply of paper towels – this can get more than a little bit messy.
You’ll also need a small brush – an inexpensive toothbrush is perfect.
Go ahead and make a trip to the bathroom for a couple of q-tips or any other brand of cotton swabs and some rubbing alcohol – you’ll need them, too.
From the kitchen cupboard, grab some white vinegar and a bit of vegetable oil, and you’ll have all you need to clean.
– Step One –
First, empty out that last bit of leftover juice in the bottom of the tank.
– Step Two –
Disassemble! Do that BEFORE you start the actual cleaning procedure. Remove your battery, any screws holding everything together, the atomizer, coils, and the O-rings (there should be 2 or 3 of them).
You may want to take a few pictures as you disassemble to refer to later, or just draw yourself a handy diagram. The point is, you’re going to need to remember how your vaping gadget came apart, especially if this is the first time you’ve cleaned your mod. In other words, it can be too easy to forget how things go back together unless you have a visual aid on hand to help you.
Please note: if your tank has a built-in battery, don’t submerge it. Batteries don’t like to get wet. Clean built-in batteries with a cotton swab.
– Step 3 –
Rinse your empty tank, it’s cap, O-rings, etc. under some hot running water. Be sure to take time to rinse well.
Should your coils seem crusted or dark in color, or if they look as if they’ve been damaged in some way, it’s best to replace them. You need to change your coils often anyway, especially if you’re a heavy vaper.
Old coils can cause a burnt taste and can even cause your tank to leak – not to mention that worn-out coils will lower the amount of vapor that is produced when you exhale.
– Step 4 –
Find yourself a clean container (a bowl will do) and fill it with some white vinegar and water or propylene glycol. Hey, even straight, high-proof vodka works well for a good mod cleaning.
If your equipment doesn’t look too dirty, hot water will work just fine. You could also use hot water with a couple of tablespoonfuls of baking soda or lemon juice stirred into it.
Swish everything around a bit and then soak your tank’s parts for a few minutes – 10 minutes or so should do just fine – or check the instructions from your mod’s manufacturer.
Don’t just twiddle your thumbs while you wait! Haul out that blender that’s been sitting in the cabinet since last summer and make yourself a cool smoothie. Throw in some milk and sugar with a couple of handfuls of frozen strawberries, sip up, and think of all the fun you’re going to have this summer!
– Step 5 –
Remove your mod’s parts from the cleaning bowl and place them on some clean, folded paper towels. If you haven’t cleaned your device recently and it’s very gunky, empty the liquid from the bowl and rinse the bowl well in hot water. Fill it again with new, clean liquid (you can use the same kind of liquid you used the first time – or just very hot water) and repeat the soaking process. Then remove the parts and put them on clean, dry paper towels again.
– Step 6 –
Use a small brush to clean each of the parts – paying careful attention to inside the tank so that airflow isn’t compromised.
You won’t need to scrub too briskly, everything should be nice and clean with a few gentle brushes. Just make sure to get into all the nooks and crannies. You want every part to be spic and span when you’re done.
Clean the connectors well, too. Use a cotton swab to get down in there. Don’t forget to hold on tight! You don’t want your mod slipping out of your grasp and hitting the floor! It has breakable parts.
When all pieces look shiny and clean, move on to the next step.
– Step 7 –
Next, rinse it all off under very warm water and place the parts on some dry, folded paper towels.
Leave them alone and let them dry for about 15 minutes – longer if necessary. You want everything to be completely dry before you begin to reassemble your vaping device.
You could use a blow dryer on a low setting if you’re in a big hurry. But, it will likely cause your O-rings to become brittle. So, if you decide to use your hair dryer, please remember to proceed with caution.
To speed things up a bit, you can dry everything off with a paper towel – but let it air dry for a while afterward anyway. Again, the key is to let all the separate pieces of your mod dry well before you proceed.

– Step 8 –
As you wait for things to dry out, lightly dip a q-tip in some rubbing alcohol and carefully swab the battery. Then, be sure to dry it with a clean, dry swab.
If your battery doesn’t seem very dirty, just wipe it with a dry cotton swab.
Look for signs of burning or corrosion. If you see these, it’s time for a new battery.
Don’t forget to clean your cell connections with a dry q-tip.
Another reminder: don’t EVER submerge batteries. Water and batteries are mortal enemies. Unfortunately, water will win every single time and your batteries will be history!
– Step 9 –
Lube up your O-rings with a tiny bit of e-liquid or some olive oil. Any vegetable oil should do nicely if you don’t have olive oil on hand.
– Step 10 –
When all parts are COMPLETELY dry, it’s time to reassemble your device. .
If you’re new at it, you’ll probably need those pictures or that diagram we talked about earlier. They’re going to come in very handy about now.
Go ahead and put everything back together. Be careful to get it right – safety first! In a few moments, you’re going to be in a high state of expectation for a taste of that delicious e-liquid you brought home just for this special occasion. You’ll want to get it right the first time so you don’t have to wait for your next vape while you redo the assembly process. As my mom used to say, “Do it right the first time, and you won’t have to redo it later!” Yes, Mother.
Take care that you don’t over tighten your tank, as that can result in damage to the pins.
When you clean your mod, always take the opportunity to replace your old coil with a new one. Surely, you don’t wanna put a yucky coil back into your sparkling clean mod, do you? Of course not! So break out a brand new coil and install it. (See picture above. Nice and glowing hot, clean coil!)
Finally, replace the wick with some fresh, new cotton and trim nicely. Tuck it into place and soon you’ll be back to vaping like the pro vaper you are.
That’s it. Wow! You did a great job! I am very impressed with folks who read and follow instructions. You rock, my friend!
I know you’re excited by this point and ready to start vaping again. So, fill your beautifully clean mod with your favorite juice and get back to vaping happy.
